Hollis Hickerson
Hollis Hickerson (they/she) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator in fiber art and illustration. In their personal work, Hollis uses felted sculpture and character-driven illustration, to explore how our identities are shaped by personal and collective experiences, social constructs, perception, and connection. Hollis’s fiber practice centers on felting raw wool, a process they use as a metaphor for emotional and social transformation, while also reflecting on sustainability, and the history of textile art. Their illustration practice expands these ideas through narrative world building that blends folklore, hybridity, and playfulness with the macabre. Teaching and community engagement are integral to their artistic practice; for over a decade, Hollis has developed and facilitated accessible, hands-on arts programs throughout New England, emphasizing material literacy, experimentation, and collective making. Across both studio and educational contexts, their work positions art as a critical and communal space for reflection, dialogue, and creative agency.
